🌿 The Verdigris Isles

One Archipelago.
Many Worlds.

From the bustling streets of Verde Haven to flooded jungles, ancient forests, shattered ruins, and winding bayous, the Verdigris Isles are a land of contrasting landscapes shaped by nature, forgotten history, and the remnants of the Age of Ascension.

✦ The Isles

A Land Reclaimed by Nature

The Verdigris Isles are an archipelago shaped by the remains of the fallen Ascension age. Ancient foundations, forgotten roads, buried structures, and fractured ruins can be found throughout the islands, often beneath forests, wetlands, and layers of vegetation that have reclaimed what civilization left behind.

At the center of the Isles stands Verde Haven, the modern capital and largest metropolitan hub. The city serves as the primary center of governance, trade, guild activity, and expedition planning.

Beyond the capital, the landscape changes dramatically. Waterfalls plunge through rainforest canyons, ancient forests stretch across untamed wilderness, ruined cities break apart beneath the Badlands, and entire roads disappear beneath the waters of the Gatorback Marshes.

Traveling through the Isles means moving between places where the modern world and the ancient past exist side by side.

✦ Major Regions

Five Faces of the Isles

Each region of the Verdigris Isles offers a different environment, culture, and relationship with the remnants of the past.

🌿
Capital City Β· Metropolitan Hub

Verde Haven

Verde Haven is the capital of the Verdigris Isles and the center of modern island life.

Built atop reclaimed Ascension foundations, the city has grown into a bustling metropolitan hub where government, trade, guilds, artisans, travelers, and expeditions converge.

Untamed Wilderness Β· Frontier

Verdigris Wilds

The Verdigris Wilds form a vast stretch of untamed wilderness where ancient forests, open plains, meadows, and spirit-rich locations dominate the landscape.

The region is known for its hunting grounds and drifting landscapes, but travelers often speak of something stranger: the feeling that the land itself is aware of those who pass through it.

Ruin Wasteland Β· Fractured Frontier

The Badlands

The Badlands are the most visibly broken region of the Isles, filled with fractured terrain, ruined structures, fallen palaces, and remnants of a civilization that collapsed long ago.

Expeditions into the region are dangerous not only because of its unstable terrain, but because something beneath the ruins appears to have survived the collapse.

Swamp Wetlands Β· Submerged Ruins

Gatorback Marshes

The Gatorback Marshes are a sprawling wetland of bayous, cypress swamps, reed villages, and submerged ruins.

Navigation through the Marshes is difficult even for experienced travelers. Old roads, causeways, and structures frequently disappear beneath the water, leaving the landscape as much a historical mystery as a geographical one.

✦ Capital · Metropolitan Hub

Verde Haven

The beating heart of the Verdigris Isles, where modern civilization has grown directly over the foundations of the past.

πŸ›οΈ Seat of Governance

Verde Haven serves as the political center of the Isles. The city's Council Hall houses the institutions responsible for governing the modern settlements and coordinating the needs of the archipelago.

βš“ Center of Trade

Merchants, travelers, artisans, and foreign visitors pass through Verde Haven constantly. Its markets connect the Isles to the wider world and make the city one of the most important trading centers in the region.

🧭 Expedition Headquarters

Expeditions into the Badlands, Mossfall Basin, Verdigris Wilds, and other dangerous territories frequently begin in the capital.

Guilds and independent explorers use the city as a place to recruit, prepare, purchase supplies, and exchange information.

🎨 A Living City

Despite being built upon reclaimed Ascension foundations, Verde Haven is not a museum of the past. New buildings, businesses, gardens, workshops, and neighborhoods have grown around the remnants.

Defining Feature Verde Haven represents the Isles' ability to rebuild. Ancient foundations remain beneath the city, but the people living above them are creating something distinctly their own.
✦ Waterfall Basin · Rainforest Canyon

Mossfall Basin

A mist-filled landscape where waterfalls, rainforest, ancient ruins, and spirit resonance exist together.

πŸ’§ Endless Water

Water dominates Mossfall Basin. Rivers, pools, waterfalls, and flooded jungle create a constantly changing network of paths through the region.

🌿 Vertical Wilderness

The Basin is shaped by enormous cliffs and elevated terrain. Canopy paths and natural formations allow travelers to move through the region above the jungle floor.

πŸ‘» Spirit Resonance

Mossfall is particularly known for its connection to spirits. Travelers may encounter unusual phenomena around ancient sites, waterways, and heavily overgrown ruins.

πŸ” Oldlight Observatory

The Oldlight Observatory stands among the Basin's ancient locations, offering a reminder that the region was once home to people who studied the world from these heights.

Defining Feature Ancient structures do not stand apart from Mossfall's ecosystem. They have become part of it, covered in vines, surrounded by water, and slowly reclaimed by the rainforest.
✦ Wilderness · Spirit-Rich Frontier

The Verdigris Wilds

A vast wilderness where ancient nature stretches beyond the boundaries of civilization.

🌳 Ancient Forests

Enormous forests dominate portions of the Wilds, creating landscapes where travelers can walk for hours without encountering a settlement.

🏹 Hunting Grounds

Hunters and trackers use established trails throughout the region, while experienced guides help newcomers navigate areas where the wilderness can become unpredictable.

🌾 Open Landscapes

The Wilds are not entirely forested. Sunlit meadows and broad plains break up the wilderness and create important spaces for travel, hunting, and settlement.

πŸŒ™ Whispering Places

Locations such as Spirit Grove and Whispering Hollow have become associated with stories of strange sounds, unusual encounters, and landscapes that seem to retain memories.

Defining Feature The Wilds are not simply empty wilderness. There is a persistent sense that the land remembers what came before, even when no obvious ruins remain.
✦ Ruin Wasteland · Fractured Frontier

The Badlands

The shattered remains of civilization, where exploration means confronting both the ruins of the past and the dangers beneath them.

🏜️ Broken Terrain

Broken mesas and fractured landscapes make travel through the Badlands difficult. Paths that appear stable may lead into unstable ground or collapsed structures.

πŸ›οΈ Fallen Civilization

Fallen palaces and outer ruins reveal the scale of the civilization that once occupied the region.

⬇️ The Buried Undercity

Beneath the surface lies an extensive buried environment whose secrets remain largely unexplored.

β›Ί Expedition Camp

The Expedition Camp serves as a base for those brave enough to enter the Badlands, providing a temporary foothold for exploration and research.

Defining Feature The Badlands are a place where civilization failed firstβ€”and where the ruins suggest that whatever caused that failure may not be entirely gone.
✦ Wetlands · Submerged Ruins

Gatorback Marshes

A slow-moving labyrinth of water, reeds, cypress trees, and history hidden beneath the surface.

🐊 Swamp Life

The Marshes support communities adapted to life around water. Fisher camps and reed villages are scattered throughout the wetlands.

πŸ›Ά Bayou Navigation

Travel through Gatorback depends heavily on knowledge of the bayous. Experienced guides know which waterways remain navigable and which paths have become blocked or submerged.

🌳 Cypress Country

Cypress swamps create some of the most distinctive landscapes in the Isles, with waterways winding between enormous trees and dense vegetation.

🏚️ Sunken History

Ancient roads, causeways, and structures lie beneath portions of the Marshes. Some can only be discovered when water levels change.

Defining Feature In Gatorback, the map is never entirely reliable. Roads become waterways, waterways shift, and entire pieces of the past may remain hidden beneath the surface.
